Dear God, What exactly is THIS GOSPEL you've sent me to preach?

I was scrolling through Twitter (X) one day and I saw a tweet that triggered me.

A young guy asked a question which in my opinion is absolutely necessary not just in it's entirety, but for the strengthening of the believer's conviction in what we preach.

The question He asked was: (paraphrased)

“If I already have money, success, good health, love etc then why should I give up certain pleasures to follow Jesus? Seeing that the things he promises are things I already possess”

And then he added, “please it's an honest question cause I'm genuinely confused…”

Now, this was the beginning of it for me…

I continued asking from where he stopped, but not online, just between I and God now…

I thought it was not just an intelligent question, but also a common one too….

It's a question we as Believers and Propagators of the Gospel must be ready to answer….and answer well if we truly want to win quality souls for the Master.

If we are faced with a person who seemingly has everything good that life has to offer, would we still have a message for them?

Imagine standing in front of the Governor of Egypt, an idolater who fears neither man or God.

He has the riches, he has power, influence and fame. He is in great health, has a beautiful family who loves and adores him, owns more properties than he can use, has the freedom of time to do whatever, whenever and however he wants it…

Apparently, this sinner has it all…..

But you and I who identify as Christians know he still needs Jesus. We know he needs to be saved.

Now the question he'll most likely ask is this:

“Saved from what?”

Why should he believe in salvation from a person he doesn't know when his life is perfect? (Seemingly)

What's in it for him?

He's probably aware of what he'll have to lose but what does he stand to gain by following this our Jesus seeing that everything seems to be going well for him already?

This is just a trailer of the entire movie I've had playing in my head for weeks now, since I saw that tweet.

I've been asking myself multiple questions,

“Sofia, you said it is from Nigeria to the ends of the earth abi? Okay in this scenario, Where will your message come from?”

“Why exactly should people leave what they've believed in all their lives and yield to what you say about Jesus?

“What do they really stand to gain if they already have the normal things you're used to preaching; prosperity, success, healing etc?”

“Okay yes Salvation. But what does this even mean? Really! Salvation from what? Sin? But sin is sweet, and people don't want to be saved from sweet things except you're offering an even sweeter thing…”

“This whole Gospel thing sef means what exactly?”

LMAO…It has been a rollercoaster of thoughts, emotions and conversations.

I have had multiple revelations and have come to certain realizations.

I have realized that because the Gospel is all encompassing, we must be careful to not preach a part of it in isolation from it's intricate essence.

Let me explain…!

Yes, there's a message of healing in the Gospel, but it is only a part of it or that would mean that we are only relevant to the sick….

Yes, there's a message of prosperity too, but preaching this part in isolation only means we are relevant to the poor….

And yes there's a message of repentance, but advocating this in isolation would only mean that the fellow who is morally upright has no need for Jesus….

Which brings me back to the highlight of my questions…

What then is the point of confluence?

And at it's core, what is this Gospel really about?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

God typing….

“Sofia, I'm glad you asked because revival and revolutions all begin with questions…

I'll start by stating a not-so-acceptable fact.

Before Christ, Man was doomed to himself!

Even satan was an inconsequential factor in this situation because with or without him, man still needed saving.

Initially, you asked an intelligent question…

‘salvation from what?’

Well, primarily HIMSELF; his unending passions and ambitions.

Let's take a few steps down memory lane…

Remember Adam? Your big daddy? (My big daddy keh…lmao)

Yah! When he sinned in the garden, Man was sentenced to a life of toil and worrisomeness.

(See Gen 3:17)

In that moment, the peace he had was exchanged for the distress of labor, and his satisfaction was replaced with the unending desire to be satisfied.

Because he yielded to his desire in Eden, his desires became his curse…

…and because he yielded to his wants, he was sentenced to wanting for the rest of his life.

Well, until Jesus showed up and said;

‘I am the Good Shepherd!’

And because the Lord is your shepherd, though shall not WANT…not anymore!

The soul of man troubles him day and night with one simple question - ‘When does it end?’

His desires are raging and limitless…

Deep down he is tired - tired of the constant of pursuit of something; wealth, power, fame, people etc

It's like a race where you just keep running and running and running….

Man is exhausted and desires a finishing line

Now you understand why just before Jesus died, he said the exact words, “It is finished!”

In other words, Enough!

Enough of the running!

Enough of the wanting!

Enough of the toiling!

He meant, ‘I am Jesus and I am where it ends.’

The moment you start a life with me, your rat race ends.

At the core of Man, there is a longing for a more meaningful life, a limitless void that nothing and no one can fill except the limitless God who made him.

Deep calleth to Deep!!!

Seeking depth and finding it nowhere else, he often turns to social vices mostly wine and women.

He expresses in alcoholism the horror about the brutal and deceitful life he must live...

And he seeks in women the warmth his cold soul desperately desires.

For a few minutes, these things set him free, but if only he knew he could have a lifetime access to that same freedom if he could just meet one man.

Sofia, this is the real reason why man needs salvation.

Because he desires FREEDOM - freedom from himself, from his desires, from the eternal trap of endlessly wanting.

More than anything, his soul seeks satisfaction, peace and completion.

And this is why your message is important.

Because as you rightfully pointed out, the Gospel is all encompassing and must not be preached partly in isolation from its actual essence because then it becomes limited and most times misleading too.

The power of this Gospel is in it's entirety, it is in it's core and whatever part highlighted on should be a vehicle driving souls back to the end result.

The message of the Gospel is the message of Freedom!

And it is a message for everyone because everyone needs freedom.

The life you have has become a plague where you're forced to bear the burden of consistent passions & ambitions.

Before Christ, the only thing that provided a temporal fix was death. You die and you REST IN PEACE.

But Jesus came and died your death, so you could have Rest and Peace in Life.

He is not just the Way, he is the Way Out of this curse you've been forced to carry.

He came to not just trade your sorrows for joy, but your passions for purpose.

It is why he said in Matt.11.28-30 (MSB),

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest…

Walk with me and work with me--watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.

Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

Sofia, There is a freedom that comes with being in Christ Jesus and this is your message to all Men; old and young, rich and poor, sick and healthy.

The message of their Freedom.

Tell them about the peace and rest Christ is offering.

Tell them how experienced I am in handling the lives of men and how nothing placed in my hand ever dies.

Tell them I'm not making a lot of demands if not for the simple request that they follow me and let me make them!

Tell them they no longer have to figure out the right way because not only do I know the way, I am that way!

Life is exhausting and in me they can finally rest from all the worrying and accomplishing.

Tell them Sofia,Tell them!

Tell them they don't have to figure out a plan for their life because before I formed them in the womb, I had their lives all planned out.

Tell them if they'll only say yes to me, I'll show them great and mighty things they know not of…

This is your message to the nations!...”
